The Popularity of Basketball In The USA

The attractiveness of a highly energetic game is invariably present among players. Basketball in the USA has achieved the status of an easy and effective form of exercise and entertainment. Its popularity stems from the relatively simple gears it requires. Basketball was designed and invented by the Presbyterian minister, James Naismith in 1891 for smoothly managing the unmanageable lot in the training school at Springfield, Massachusetts which is known as the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA). Since then basketball has evolved into an extremely popular form of sports activity in the USA. Amateur Basketball Association of the United States of America (ABAUSA) renamed as USA Basketball on October 12, 1989 presides over the selection and preparation of the men's and women's teams that represents USA in international play-offs.
The path to popularity for basketball in the USA was paved by numerous notable players which include famous players like Michael Jordan who augmented the popularity of basketball globally. Another player is Forrest Allen (1885-1974) who had made a record score of 100 points in a game. He initially played for Naismith at the University of Kansas and later won 771 games as a coach at Kansas. The National Basketball Association (NBA) formed the best team of American professional basketball players which competed in the Olympic Games of 1992
The victory of the American women's basketball team at the Olympics in 1996 facilitated the formation of The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 1997. The triumph also resulted in the establishment of professional women's basketball leagues.
