Best Basketball Drills for High School Practice
The following are some of the best drills that can easily be practiced at high schools to improve skills. They are both easy to perform and very practical to increase performance. The drills are varied in the skills they seek to improve: shooting, dribbling, or passing.
This one is a great warmup. Besides that, it works reaction time and passing. Players are sprinting all around the court and passing the ball. This drill is done simultaneously on opposite sides of the court. Essentially, one player starts from under the basket, passes the ball to a player on the outlet, sprints to center court while receiving the ball back, passes to another player in the middle, sprints to the opposite outlet while receiving the ball back, and so on.
A great drill that develops quick thinking, teamwork, and it is great for conditioning. Three players are in line, with the ball in the middle. The ball is tossed to either side and two players run with it against three players on the opposite side of the court. The number of shots they can take is limited.
Another great drill for fast thinking. Players should be able to make a fast transition between offense and defense and always stay on the move. One player chest-passes the ball to another one, who quickly sprints towards the opposite basket with the ball. The first player follows to stop him. At the moment the second player shoots or is stopped by the first one, they switch sides to the other basket. It is a simple drill but it helps develop sprinting and provides excellent conditioning.
This is a great warmup before practices and games. It is a drill of constant passing, receiving, and sprinting. In essence, it is a drill where all three players from three lines are passing each other the ball in synchrony while sprinting all through the court.
